Choosing a baby name isn't always easy. Both parents will have names they love for their impending arrival, and there's often some level of compromise that needs to be reached so that you can find a moniker that suits everyone.

However, sometimes one parent will suggest a name that the other instantly falls in love with, and no further discussion needs to be had. This might sound like the ideal scenario, but what would you do if your partner suggested a name that you later discovered had a horrible meaning? That's the exact situation one mum-to-be has found herself in.

The pregnant woman explained on Reddit that she and her husband are expecting their second child, and together they found a name they both "absolutely love".

While she didn't reveal the name in her post, she said the couple has been thinking of using it for years, even before they welcomed their first child. She also stated they have the "perfect middle name to go with it" and said her three-year-old child uses the name while "talking to her belly".

However, the woman is now considering changing the name after finding out what might have inspired her husband to put his stamp of approval on the moniker.

It turns out her spouse has been sending "explicit messages" to a colleague, who has the same name as their future daughter.

She wrote: "I've recently found explicit messages between my husband and his coworker. This has made my life completely implode.

"For starters, I don’t know if I will even be staying with my husband, despite them both claiming it was never physical and that he has no love for her.

"The issue is that her name happens to be the same name I've been wanting to name my daughter. I've had no other name in mind because to me I found the perfect name.

"So, do I have this name stolen from me like so much in my life right now or keep it? I tell myself to be strong and that this was her name before their affair even started, and not to let it be taken away. But on the other hand, will I regret it and only be triggered by the whole thing from now on?"

Commenters on the post sympathised with the woman's dilemma, but ultimately told her that she should probably find an alternative name for her daughter. They pointed out that if she considers it an issue now, it will still be a problem when her child is born.

One person said: "I'd change it. If it's already on your mind, it will always be on your mind."

Another added: "I wouldn't name my child after someone my spouse cheated on me with. Sucks at the coincidence. But I would scrap the name and pick out a new one.

"Every time I think of my kids name I will be reminded of the incident and be a daily reminder. Too close to home for that one myself."

While a third shared: "I think now that you have a negative association with the name, you should definitely change it. I just wouldn't want to be reminded of my ex-husband's affair partner every time I call my daughter for lunch."
